Prof. Nancy Rhodes holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Texas A&M University and is currently a professor in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at Michigan State University. She also serves as Associate Editor of the journal Psychology of Popular Media. Her research focuses on persuasion and social influence, particularly the role of social norms in shaping health and risk behaviors. Her work has been widely published in top academic journals such as Communication Research, Communication Monographs, and Media Psychology.
In this lecture, Prof. Rhodes will provide an in-depth exploration of social influence, with a particular focus on how social norms shape human behavior. She will share findings from her extensive research on health risk behaviors, including smoking, alcohol consumption, and reckless driving, examining how individuals process and internalize social norms. Additionally, she will discuss strategies for leveraging these insights to reduce health risk behaviors and improve public health outcomes.
